2007: Wigan Athletic 5-3 Blackburn Rovers
Marcus Bent and Roque Santa Cruz both scored hat-tricks as Wigan Athletic beat Blackburn Rovers in an eight-goal thriller at the JJB Stadium.
Strikes from Denny Landzaat, Bent and Paul Scharner put the hosts 3-0 up, but Blackburn forward Santa Cruz struck three times to level the scores, his third goal coming just after his team-mate Brett Emerton had been sent off.
Wigan capitalised on their numerical advantage in the end, though. Bent restored the hosts’ lead five minutes after the equaliser before wrapping up his own treble.
Wigan remained in the bottom three, lying 19th on 12 points, two points from safety. Blackburn were left in ninth place on 26 points.
2012: Newcastle United 1-3 Manchester City
Manchester City bounced back from a derby defeat to secure a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United.
Sergio Aguero gave the visitors a 10th-minute lead and Javi Garcia doubled the advantage.
Demba Ba pulled one back after half-time but Yaya Toure restored City’s two-goal cushion.
The result left Man City in second place on 36 points, six points behind leaders Manchester United, while Newcastle dropped to 15th on 17 points, just two points above the relegation zone.
