1994: Ian Taylor joins Aston Villa

Lifelong Aston Villa fan Ian Taylor joined his boyhood club from Sheffield Wednesday.

In his first season Taylor helped Villa to stay in the Premier League, and he then played a key part as they finished fourth the following year, netting against Manchester United, Wimbledon and Southampton.

He also scored in the 1996 League Cup final, which Aston Villa won.

Taylor became a fan favourite and spent nine seasons at Villa Park, scoring 28 league goals from midfield.

1996: Manchester United 5-0 Sunderland

Manchester United comfortably beat Sunderland at Old Trafford as they pursued leaders Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Eric Cantona both scored braces while Nicky Butt was also on target.

Manchester United’s victory left them fifth on 31 points, seven behind pacesetters Liverpool, while Sunderland were 14th on 20 points - five above the relegation zone.
