2009: Wigan name Roberto Martinez as their new manager
Roberto Martinez was appointed as Wigan Athletic manager following a move from Swansea City.
He went on to win his first match in charge against Aston Villa, which was Wigan’s first opening-weekend win in the Premier League.
The Spaniard led Wigan to safety in each of his first three seasons with the club.
In his fourth campaign, he managed the Latics to their first-ever major trophy, beating Manchester City 1-0 in the 2013 FA Cup final.
That season did end in relegation though, and he went on to be appointed Everton manager that summer.
2017: Leicester City sign Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire joined Leicester City from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.
The centre-back had played 29 times in the Premier League in 2016/17, impressing despite the Tigers’ relegation.
Maguire played every match of his first PL season at the King Power Stadium, getting two goals, four assists and nine clean sheets.
He helped the Foxes finish ninth and was rewarded with a place in England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
