After their extra-time defeat by Croatia, Premier League Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore has paid tribute to the England team for having reached their first FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 28 years.
"Congratulations to the England team for getting so far in the World Cup," Scudamore said, calling it "a great achievement".
He added: "Gareth Southgate, his coaching staff and the players deserve huge credit for this success, and for capturing the imagination of the nation with their wonderful performances.
"Everyone at The Football Association, especially St George’s Park, has done a fantastic job working with the England squad and building the team ethic that took them to this level.
"We are proud to see England players who have developed at Premier League clubs, with the benefit of FA preparation and Gareth’s excellent team management, achieve so much.
"They have excelled on the global stage and have reminded everyone that our football is among the best in the world.
"This will bring a boost to all levels of the English game.
"We look forward to another great effort on Saturday against Belgium. Then let’s give the team a heroes' welcome home. They deserve it.”
