England's hopes of a first FIFA World Cup final in 52 years came to an end with a 2-1 defeat by Croatia in Russia.

Gareth Southgate's men had taken the lead in Moscow through Kieran Trippier's fantastic free-kick in the fifth minute.

Jordan Pickford again starred in goal but the Everton 'keeper was powerless to stop Ivan Perisic's equaliser in the 68th minute.

Mario Mandzukic completed the turnaround in extra-time.

It means Liverpool's Dejan Lovren will face France, who have five Premier League players in their squad, in the final on Sunday at 16:00 BST.

England will face Belgium in the third-place playoff at 15:00 BST on Saturday.
