Fantasy Premier League managers wondering how best to make up ground with the leaders of their mini-leagues should take a closer look at the underlying statistics, says expert Sam Bonfield.

A football statistics tool, the ICT Index has been developed specifically to give a verdict on a player as an FPL asset, using match event data to generate a single score for three key areas – Influence, Creativity and Threat.

These figures then combine to create an individual’s ICT Index score and Bonfield believes there are nuggets of gold to be mined in these stats.

"If you're behind in your mini-league and you need to make up some points you need to look at the ICT Index," she says. "Take a look particularly look at Influence and Threat."

Fellow expert Lee Bonfield says it is also worth keeping a close eye on players from clubs who have recently recruited a new manager and been given a new lease of life.

"If you need to make up ground then that’s when you do need to take risks, so you need to look at the clubs who have got new managers," he says.

"So have a look at Fulham, have a look at Southampton, have a look at Manchester United as well.

"Let’s see how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to lead that Manchester United team in the second half of the season.”
