Lazar Markovic and Glen McAuley were on target as Liverpool kept their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup alive with a 2-0 win over Swansea City.
Liverpool took the lead on 16 minutes when Markovic (pictured) raced on to a McAuley through-ball to finish with the outside of his boot.
After Shamal George had brilliantly saved Botti Biabi’s header to preserve the lead, Liverpool made sure of victory 13 minutes from time when McAuley completed a counter-attack by meeting Abdi Sharif’s cross.
Victory means Neil Critchley’s side finish Group E with six points and are in second behind Villarreal.
The two best runners-up will join the six group winners in the last eight, so Liverpool must wait for the completion of all the group stage matches next week to learn if they have a place in the last eight.
Swansea finished fourth with one point.
