Miguel Almiron's first Premier League goal secured three points for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace at St James' Park.
In a goalless first half, Paraguayan winger Almiron curled a good shot on target early on, but Vicente Guaita was in position to save.
Wilfried Zaha then failed to convert a clear chance for the visitors as Martin Dubravka saved his one-on-one effort, after the winger was played in by Christian Benteke.
In the second half Benteke was denied by Dubravka, after James McArthur had forced the Magpies' goalkeeper into action.
But with seven minutes left Almiron settled the match with a wonderful finish after Andy Carroll had teed him up.
Steve Bruce's side, who are now unbeaten in eight home matches go ninth, with 25 points. Crystal Palace drop to 12th on 23.
