Craig Dawson's second-half own goal secured a double for Manchester United over West Ham United as they moved back into second spot with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
After a tense opening, Marcus Rashford went close to breaking the deadlock on 25 minutes but his downward header from Mason Greenwood's inviting delivery bounced wide.
Greenwood tested Lukasz Fabianski six minutes later with an angled shot before he was denied once more with a left-foot curler that the goalkeeper tipped on to the upright.
Man Utd went ahead eight minutes after the break. Bruno Fernandes floated in a corner from the left, Scott McTominay jumped to win the header but the ball bounced off Dawson and beyond Fabianski.
Fernandes was close to adding a second on the hour but Fabianski dived low to save moments before Tomas Soucek headed wide at the other end.
Greenwood hit the post for a second time from the edge of the box with 13 minutes remaining.
Victory moves the Red Devils, now unbeaten in nine matches, back up to second spot on 57 points, one point clear of Leicester City in third. West Ham remain fifth on 48 points.
