Brighton & Hove Albion gave their hopes of staying up a major boost by beating Southampton for the first time in the Premier League.
Brighton went into the match above the bottom three on goal difference alone after a three-match losing run and positive results for the teams below them.
But they made a great start at St Mary's Stadium when Lewis Dunk headed in Pascal Gross's 16th-minute corner for his fourth goal of the season.
Southampton equalised 11 minutes later when Dunk could not clear Ryan Bertrand's header across goal and Che Adams volleyed in to score for a third successive match.
Gross was then denied when one-on-one with Fraser Forster before Brighton's winner came on 56 minutes, Leandro Trossard smashing in after a clever touch by Danny Welbeck.
A first victory in eight attempts against Southampton lifts Brighton to 16th on 29 points. They move above their next opponents Newcastle United and three points clear of Fulham, over whom they have a superior goal difference.
A run of one win in 12 matches leaves Saints in 14th with 33 points.
