Willian Jose scored his first goal for the club as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Sheffield United 1-0 to confirm the Blades' relegation from the Premier League.
Clear scoring chances were at a premium in the opening half, although Willy Boly's backheeled flick had to be headed off the line by Oliver Norwood in the 21st minute.
Sheff Utd needed a win to avoid relegation and were denied a crucial opening goal on 59 minutes when Nelson Semedo superbly blocked Enda Stevens' effort.
And just 18 seconds later Wolves edged ahead in a lightning counter-attack.
Adama Traore broke powerfully down the right and cut the ball back invitingly for Jose, who swept the ball home.
The Blades needed a response and almost found one through the lively Stevens, but Rui Patricio superbly tipped his powerful drive over the bar.
Wolves went close to adding a second when substitute Fabio Silva's 83rd-minute header dropped wide of the upright and Romain Saiss's effort two minutes later was saved low to his right by Aaron Ramsdale.
Defeat leaves Sheff Utd bottom on 14 points from 32 matches.
Wolves are 12th with 41 points.
