Isaac Hayden cancelled out a Leandro Trossard penalty to earn Newcastle United a point at 10-man Brighton & Hove Albion.
Brighton dominated the early stages at the Amex Stadium, with Trossard and Shane Duffy heading tamely at Karl Darlow.
Trossard broke the deadlock from the spot on 24 minutes, having been tripped by Ciaran Clark in the area, for his third goal of the season.
Newcastle looked energised after the interval. Matt Ritchie's deflected effort tested Robert Sanchez before Hayden latched on to Clark's knockdown to restore parity on 66 minutes.
Brighton finished the match a player light after Sanchez was dismissed in the second minute of stoppage time for denying Callum Wilson a goalscoring opportunity.
Lewis Dunk took up the gloves for the final few minutes as Graham Potter had used all his substitutes but the makeshift 'keeper was not called into action.
Brighton lie seventh on 17 points, three adrift of the top four.
Newcastle are 19th with five points, above Norwich City on goal difference.
