Bruno Guimaraes scored a sublime winner as Newcastle United earned a 2-1 comeback victory at Southampton to seal a sixth win in seven matches.
Stuart Armstrong was first to a loose ball to head Southampton into a 25th-minute lead from close range.
Their advantage lasted just seven minutes, with Chris Wood stealing a march on Mohammed Salisu to head Jonjo Shelvey's cross past Fraser Forster.
Southampton came closest to leading at half-time, but Che Adams' powerful strike cannoned off the crossbar and away from goal.
That miss proved costly as Guimaraes marked his first Premier League start in style, producing an innovative back-heeled volley to make it 2-1 on 52 minutes.
Salisu twice tested Martin Dubravka, the latter opportunity forcing a smart save with one minute remaining, as the hosts searched in vain for an equaliser.
Having extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches Newcastle sit 14th with 31 points, only four behind 10th-placed Southampton with a match in hand.
