James Trafford produced a superb display in goal, making 10 saves to earn Burnley a 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Teenager Wilson Odobert’s deflected strike gave Burnley the lead before Simon Adingra’s 77th-minute header set up a grand finale but Trafford stood firm to give the Clarets their fifth away point of the season.
How the match unfolded
Brighton came close to opening the scoring through Pascal Gross, who had his near-post effort turned behind by Trafford.
But it was Burnley who took the lead through Odobert’s fine long-range strike. The 19-year-old French winger cut in from the left and saw his shot via a deflection loop into the top-left corner.
Brighton applied pressure on Burnley’s goal in the second half as Kaoru Mitoma, a half-time substitute, shot over.
Trafford then did very well to rush out of his goal and stop Adingra.
But the Ivorian was not to be denied midway through the second half as he produced a fine far-post header from Pascal Gross’s cross.
Now it was Brighton who threatened a winner with sustained pressure. The pick of Trafford’s 10 saves came when he tipped over Mitoma’s back-post shot in the final minutes.
The vital point keeps Burnley in 19th with eight points, two off 17th-placed Everton, who have played a match fewer. Brighton remain in eighth on 26 points.
