Middlesbrough marked their Premier League International Cup debut with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Villarreal at the Darlington Arena.
After a tightly contested first 45 minutes, Callum Cooke scored the winning goal in second half stoppage-time, wrong-footing visiting goalkeeper Joan Femenias with a deflected free-kick from 25 yards.

Middlesbrough are level with Manchester United at the top of International Cup group B on three points. Boro next face Sparta Prague on Tuesday 15 November.
