Southampton v Burnley

Claude Puel has praised Southampton's defensive work all over the pitch as they chase a seventh consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, one shy of a record set in August 1922.

“It’s not just the defence,” Puel told southamptonfc.com. “It’s important to consider the work of all the team – midfield and offensive players also."

At home Southampton have lost only once in their last 14 league meetings with Burnley (W7 D6), but their defence will be without Cedric Soares (foot) and Ryan Bertrand (hamstring).

A late decision will be made on Shane Long, but Jay Rodriguez has recovered from a groin problem and could feature.

For Burnley, goalkeeper Tom Heaton has shaken off a calf complaint and is expected to start his 138th consecutive league match for the club.

Ashley Barnes is back in full training but is still not ready, while Andre Gray continues his suspension.
