1996: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool
David Beckham scored the only goal as Manchester United beat rivals Liverpool 1-0 to knock them off the top of the table.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was blocked off on the edge of the area, Beckham charged in to thunder a low right-footed strike in via the post in the 23rd minute.
Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel denied both Stan Collymore and Patrick Berger to preserve the three points for the hosts.
United stayed fourth with 19 points, while Liverpool dropped two spots to third on 20 points, with Newcastle United and Arsenal moving above them.
1996: Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Arsenal
Ian Wright scored twice to give Arsenal a 2-0 victory in Arsene Wenger's first Premier League match in charge of the Gunners at winless Blackburn Rovers.
Wright grabbed his first goal after just three minutes, with a clever finish into the corner of the net.
Blackburn responded as James Beattie went close with an audacious lob, and Tim Sherwood hit the crossbar.
In the second half, Paul Merson found Wright in space and he lifted the ball over the advancing Tim Flowers to make it 2-0.
Blackburn remained bottom on three points, while Arsenal moved up a place to second with 20 points.
