Day 1 review: Maupay and Billing set the pace

The draw for the inaugural ePremier League Invitational tournament has been made as players and celebrity fans from all 20 Premier League clubs prepare to battle for supremacy.

Representatives from each team will go head-to-head in EA SPORTS FIFA 20 throughout this week, and the draw for the knockout competition has thrown up some exciting ties.

On day 1, eight contestants fought for a place in the last 16, with Neal Maupay (BHA), Josh Franceschi (ARS), Dwight McNeil (BUR) and Philip Billing (BOU) going through to the last 16, when the remaining 12 club representatives entered the competition.

Raheem Sterling (MCI), Andre Gomes (EVE), Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV) and Christian Atsu (NEW) were the winners on Day 2, becoming the first four players to reach the quarter-finals.

Diogo Jota (WOL), Lys Mousset (SHU), Maupay and McNeil joined them in the last eight with victories on Day 3.

In the quarter-finals on Day 4, Alexander-Arnold and Sterling triumphed to set up a semi-final between the Premier League's top two clubs, while Jota and McNeil progressed and met each other in the last four.

Jota was crowned champion on Day 5, beating Alexander-Arnold on a Golden Goal in the final following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

Alexander-Arnold won with a Golden Goal of his own in his semi-final against Sterling, before Jota triumphed 4-1 versus McNeil.

Prize fund to NHS

The prize fund is being donated to the #PlayersTogether initiative, created by Premier League players as a collective way of generating funds for the National Health Service and distributing them where they are needed most.

The tournament will also continue to urge everyone to follow official advice by staying home and saving lives.

The semi-finals and final will be televised live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK at 15:00 BST on Saturday 25 April.
