The Premier League is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Liverpool and Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier, who has died at the age of 73.
Houllier joined Liverpool in 1998 and oversaw a cup treble in 2000/01, with the Reds lifting the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup.
The following season Houllier led his team to a second-placed finish, their highest in the Premier League at the time. And in 2002/03 he secured another trophy as Liverpool lifted the League Cup again.
We are mourning the passing of our treble-winning manager, Gerard Houllier.

Houllier, who won the Manager of the Month award three times while in charge of Liverpool, had a spell in France with Lyon but returned to the Premier League in September 2010 to take charge of Aston Villa.
He led the club to a ninth-placed finish in his only season in 2010/11, the last time they finished that high.
All at Aston Villa are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gérard Houllier, our manager during the 2010/11 season.
