The win rocketed the Blues to the top of the Premier League table where they sit deadlocked on points and goals scored with Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds also won by three goals over the weekend, defeating Crystal Palace 3-0.

At London Stadium, David De Gea spoiled a storybook moment for West Ham United veteran Mark Noble, who was subbed on in extra-time to take the potential match-tying penalty.

The Spain goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny Noble and ensured all three points went back with the Red Devils to Manchester.

On the south coast, Brighton & Hove Albion continued their sparkling start to the season with an impressive victory against Leicester City, moving them into the top four, right behind United who sit third.
