Ike Ugbo struck twice as Chelsea eased past Sunderland 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in Division 1.
Richard Nartey gave the home side the lead after just four minutes before Ugbo, 18, struck either side of half-time to convert Chelsea’s dominance of the match into goals.
The three points take Chelsea, who next play Everton on 21 April, above Arsenal into fourth on 29 points, having played a match more.
Defeat means Sunderland are merely four points above the two-team relegation zone and before they contest the Premier League International Cup final must play Arsenal on 22 April.
