A goal from Erling Haaland helped Manchester City to return to winning ways, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.
City started the match in explosive fashion with early goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland. However, a goal for Brighton’s Ansu Fati and a red card for Manuel Akanji made it a nervy ending for the home fans.

In the seventh minute Jeremy Doku brilliantly skipped past Pascal Gross in the box to find Alvarez who scored with a mishit shot for his fourth Premier League goal of the season.
Twelve minutes later, Haaland capitalised from a mistake from Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba to dispatch a powerful shot from outside the box to break his two-game goal drought.
After being dominated in the opening half, Brighton showed more fight after the break. In the 69th minute, Kaoru Mitoma was put through on goal but could not curl his shot round the onrushing Ortega on target.
But the Japanese winger was involved in the Brighton goal. He beat Kyle Walker and sent in a cross that Manuel Akanji failed to clear, allowing substitute Fati to scored the rebound.
In stoppage time Akanji’s woes deepened as he was sent off for a second yellow card.
But City hung on to return back to the top of the Premier League on 21 points, while Brighton drop to seventh with 16 points.

The home team got off to a dream start as Jacob Murphy opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Kieran Trippier’s sumptuous cushioned pass set up Murphy down the right channel to send a brilliant lob over Sam Johnstone and into the far corner.
Anthony Gordon, back from suspension, missed a glorious chance to double the lead but could only hit the bar from close range. He made amends just before half-time, converting first-time Murphy’s brilliant cross at the far post.
There was still time for a third Newcastle goal before the break, Sean Longstaff profiting from a slip by Marc Guehi to advance into the area and score.
Murphy was also involved in the fourth with his cross-pass finding Callum Wilson to finish midway through the second half.
The win lifts Newcastle to fifth, with 16 points.
Palace are 11th with 12 points.

But it did not take them long to make amends in the second half with Anthony Elanga feeding Chris Wood to finish well.
The two combined for Forest’s second, Elanga crossing for Wood to nod in in the 76th minute.
Luton pulled a goal back through Chiedozie Ogbene in the 83rd minute. Substitute Andros Townsend, making his debut for Luton, sent in a free-kick that found its way to Ogbene.
Then in the second minute of stoppage time, Tom Lockyer sent a long ball into the Forest area, where Elijah Adebayo outmuscled Joe Worrall before brilliantly controlling the ball on his chest and slotting the ball in.
Forest are 15th with 10 points while Luton remain 17th, with five.
O'Neil avenges Cherries exit
Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil returned to Vitality Stadium to haunt AFC Bournemouth with a 2-1 win over the 10-man Cherries to extend his successor Adoni Iraola’s winless start to nine matches.
After Pedro Neto had hit the bar for Wolves with a brilliant effort, it was the home side who found the early breakthrough in the 17th minute. Debutant Alex Scott drove forward from deep and laid off a pass to Philip Billing, who squared for Dominic Solanke to score with a smart backheel finish.

Within 90 seconds of the second half, Wolves pulled level. Half-time substitute Tommy Doyle threaded a pass to Neto who burst forward and found Matheus Cunha, who converted first-time.
It soon went from bad to worse for the home side, Lewis Cook saw red for headbutting Hwang Hee-chan.
The winner came from a Bournemouth goal-kick, as goalkeeper Neto passed to Philip, who was robbed by Hwang Hee-chan, who dinked the ball to substitute Sasa Kalajdzic to score two minutes from time.
The win sends Wolves to 12th with eight points while Bournemouth remain 19th with three points.

The Bees came charging out of the blocks, Neil Maupay and Bryan Mbeumo both going close.
In the 25th minute the breakthrough came as Mbeumo fed Yoane Wissa at the far post to score with ease.
A piece of Mbeumo magic doubled the lead in the 62nd minute. A well-worked move resulted in the ball being laid off to the 24-year-old, who struck a glorious curling effort into the top left corner.
Half-time substitute Luca Koleosho had a golden opportunity to halve the deficit, but could not sort out his feet and missed from close range.
Burnley’s hopes of a comeback were hit when Connor Roberts was dismissed for a second yellow and the result was put to bed by second-half substitute Saman Ghoddos’ brilliant half-volley in the 87th minute.
Brentford climb to 14th, with 10 points, while a seventh league defeat of the season keeps Burnley 18th with four points.
