For the first time EVER, more than two million Fantasy Premier League managers have played a chip in a Gameweek.

Two attractive fixtures for each of the Premier League's top two clubs led to a record number of FPL bosses activating one of their chips in the hope of extracting maximum points from Double Gameweek 25.

Liverpool visited Brentford in Saturday's opening match and also play Luton Town on Wednesday, while Manchester City hosted Chelsea in Saturday's late kick-off before welcoming Brentford to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

2021/22 GW26 1.99m
2020/21 GW18 1.98m

The Triple Captain chip proved the most popular, with more than 1.5m managers opting to use it, another record for a Gameweek.

But more than 315,000 instead chose to Wildcard, while a season-high 295,000+ decided to Free Hit.

Free Hit 295,188

It's just the second time ever that over one million Triple Captain chips have been deployed in a Gameweek, surpassing the previous high of 1.1m that had stood for nearly two years.

On that occasion, in Double Gameweek 26 of 2021/22, the vast majority used their Triple Captain on Mohamed Salah for his two enticing home matches versus Norwich City and Leeds United.

The Egyptian duly delivered double-figure hauls in both games to delight his backers with a 28-point score — or 84 points with the Triple Captain chip.

This time, Erling Haaland (£14.4m) was the star attraction, with 1.3m managers hoping he could match Salah's mega-haul of 2022, making the Norwegian the most Triple-Captained player ever.

Haaland made a slow start, blanking in Man City's 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday, despite having a game-high nine shots in the box, the joint-most he's ever mustered in a Premier League match.

However, he delivered in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Brentford, scoring the only goal and earning two bonus points, taking his total for the Double Gameweek to 10 points, and 30 with the Triple Captain chip.

Haaland's best score out of the five Double Gameweeks he's appeared in remains 16 points. In Double Gameweek 34 of 2022/23 Fantasy, he registered goals against both Fulham and West Ham United to earn two bonus and a total of eight points in each match.

Despite failing to produce a single double-digit return this season, Marcus Rashford (£8.4m) stepped up when more than 550,000 Triple-Captained him in Gameweek 22 of 2022/23 Fantasy.

The Man Utd midfielder scored and supplied an assist in his first match of that Double Gameweek at home to Crystal Palace, earning 12 points. He then added another goal and eight points against Leeds.
