Alex Keble looks at what Everton need to do in the summer transfer window to improve their squad.
Everton
Only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool conceded fewer goals than Everton’s 51 last season, and only the Gunners kept more than their 13 clean sheets.
It’s pretty clear that Sean Dyche doesn’t need defenders. But it is concerning that only Sheffield United scored fewer than Everton's 40 goals, which, from an Expected Goals (xG) of 54.9, means they under-hit their xG by 14.9 - more than any other team.
It isn’t chance creation, then, but putting them away. Dyche would love a more consistent centre-forward to complete his tactical set-up.
Everton could also benefit from another winger in the Dwight McNeil mould, capable of beating their man and swinging crosses into the box. For a counter-attacking team, it is notable that Everton are 19th in the charts for successful take-ons (250) and progressive carries, with 495.
Key positions to target: Winger, centre-forward
