Newcastle United have announced the signing of goalkeeper John Ruddy on a free transfer.
Ruddy joins on a one-year deal after his contract with Birmingham City expired. He made 44 appearances as the club suffered relegation from the Championship in 2023/24.
The 37-year-old has made 551 senior appearances across his career, representing 13 clubs.
He has played 123 times in the Premier League, for Everton, Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, keeping 25 clean sheets.
"It was an opportunity I couldn't turn down," Ruddy told Newcastle's official website. "It's a huge, huge club which is only going one way and to be a part of that, however big or small, is going to be very pleasing and very exciting."
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said: "He has a huge amount of experience and adds a level of support and competition that we need. As well as his abilities on the pitch, he has a strong mentality and he is a leader, which will only benefit the group."
Other Newcastle transfers
It has been a busy 24 hours for Newcastle, who have also announced the signings of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest and defender Lewis Hall, on a permanent basis, from Chelsea.
Leaving the club are midfielder Elliot Anderson, who has moved to Forest on a permanent deal, and winger Yankuba Minteh, who has left for Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ruddy is one of five Newcastle goalkeepers for 2024/25, along with Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie and Vlachodimos.
