Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran has signed a new long-term contract with the club until 2030, following his blistering start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Colombia international's new deal will delight supporters who are still buzzing from his spectacular winner in last week's UEFA Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

That was Duran's sixth goal in all competitions this season - and remarkably, he has scored FIVE of them as a substitute. In the Premier League, he has netted against West Ham United, Leicester City, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, with three of the goals being decisive.

His left-footed screamer at Everton's expense was nominated for September's Guinness Goal of the Month award, with the winner being announced this Friday.

The 20-year-old also netted in the only game he has started in 2024/25 so far, in the EFL Cup at Wycombe Wanderers, where his penalty helped Unai Emery's men to edge their third-round tie 2-1.

Duran has made 42 Premier League appearances in total, scoring nine times, since arriving from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire in the January 2023 transfer window. In all competitions, he has netted 14 goals in 59 games but is surprisingly yet to contribute an assist.

Rapid impact off the bench

Villa's super sub needed as little as two minutes to score off the bench at Leicester this season, while his longest timespan between coming on and finding the net is 26 minutes, at home against Wolves.

Opponents Sub time (min) Goal time (min)
West Ham (A) 62 79
Leicester (A) 61 63
Everton (H) 69 76
Wolves (H) 62 90+4
Bayern Munich (H) 70 79

Since Duran made his debut on 4 February 2023, his eight goals from the bench are more than any other player.

Player Total
Jhon Duran 8
Callum Wilson 7
Leandro Trossard 6
Gabriel Martinelli 5
Harvey Barnes 5

Even more impressively, among players with at least five Premier League goals, only one in Premier League HISTORY has scored with greater regularity than Duran - and that is Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

Best PL minutes-per-goal ratio*
Player Mins Goals Mins/Goal
Erling Haaland 5,961 73 82
Jhon Duran 772 9 86

Ruud van Nistelrooy 12,179 95 128
Alexander Isak 4,195 32 131
Cole Palmer 3,700 28 132

*Minimum five goals

That minutes-per-goal ratio means that, on average, Duran strikes at least once in every 90-minute match.

He converts 24.3 per cent of his shots into goals and has scored almost DOUBLE his Expected Goals tally, netting nine times after only being expected to score 4.7 times based on the difficulty of the chances.
