Manchester City have announced that Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension at the club to stay through to June 2027 but the Spaniard said he did consider quitting at the end of this season.
The agreement brings to an end any doubt over Guardiola's immediate future, with his current deal due to expire at the end of this season.
“Manchester City means so much to me" he told Man City's official website. “This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club.
“That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons. I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much.
“Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

However, Guardiola did admit that he had considered leaving at the end of this season but resolved to stay at City amid their worst run of defeats in 18 years.
Following losses to Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup, AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, and Sporting in the UEFA Champions League, City suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions at Brighton & Hove Albion before this month's international break. It is the first time Guardiola has lost four successive matches in his managerial career.
"Since the beginning of the season, I was thinking a lot, there were some moments, I have to be honest, I thought this should be the last one because every one is..." he told mancity.com. "But at the same time, when the situation comes and the problems we had in the last month, I felt now is not the time to leave, I would let the club down and I had the feeling I had to do it."
The new deal could see Guardiola complete more than a decade in charge of the club, having arrived at Man City on 1 July 2016 when he replaced Manuel Pellegrini.
Guardiola has won 18 major trophies in his eight full seasons at City so far, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. The latter was achieved in the club's historic Treble-winning season of 2022/23.
