It has been another enthralling year in the Premier League and we are celebrating 2024 with 24 of the best photos that were taken around the grounds, courtesy of Getty Images.
Here, Getty photographers - and some of their counterparts from the clubs - explain how they came to take their fantastic shots.
1. Manchester City v West Ham United - Michael Regan: "There’s always a rehearsal day before a potential trophy lift, but despite that, so much can quickly go wrong at the crucial moment. TV cameras can block the view, or players can turn the wrong way. Usually the historic moment goes well but it's easily the most stressful five seconds of the season." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 24mm-70mm)
2. Nottingham Forest v AFC Bournemouth - Michael Regan: "There’s a great position opposite the Trent End at Forest to capture the pre-match tifos when they happen. On this occasion I think they got their timing slightly off as the game started during the display!" (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 70mm-200mm)
3. Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Nick Taylor (Liverpool): "For Jurgen Klopp’s last game in the Anfield dugout, I was extremely privileged to able to set up next to him to capture his emotions throughout the game. In this particular picture he is reacting to a near miss for Liverpool at the Kop end." (Camera: Nikon Z9 Nikkor 14mm-24mm f2.8 S Lens)
4. Ipswich Town v Crystal Palace - Shaun Botterill: "It was a freezing cold night and I noticed that when play stopped, the heat poured out of the players, causing the steam effect. Eberechi Eze came over to take a corner and turned to interact with the crowd leaning against the flag with the ‘old school’ floodlight of Portman Road behind." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 24-70mm lens)
5. Sheffield United v Aston Villa - Catherine Ivill: "Villa captain John McGinn handed goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez his warm-up jacket which he placed round the shoulders of the mascot. These moments that show a different side of footballers are lovely, and the mascot was delighted, making the experience more special. Hopeful he got to keep it." (Camera: Canon R3 + 70-200mm f2.8 lens)
6. Liverpool v Villa - John Powell (Liverpool): "After I took the picture of his goal, Mohamed Salah then ran towards me as I was positioned in the corner of the pitch. He decided to sit on the advertising board - for me, it was a dream position. You would ask him to pose there if you had the chance." (Camera: Nikon Z9 with a 70-210 f2.8 lens)
7. Spurs v Fulham - Michael Regan: "It’s a fantastic stadium to work at, and I’d been wanting to capture it from above. Once the crowd had left and the sun had set, I sent up a drone to capture the stadium from 120ft. Spurs had lit their stadium up to celebrate the Rainbow Laces campaign which added a splash of colour for good measure." (Camera: DJI Drone)
8. Fulham v Wolves - Richard Heathcote: "Wolves travelled to Fulham and the strugglers didn’t read the memo, pulling out a performance under pressure. This picture exemplifies that desire, with Toti Gomes holding off Harry Wilson. The bright kits and a wide-open aperture on a long lens help the players stand out against the clean dark background." (Camera: 400mm 2.8 on a Canon R1)
9. Spurs v Brentford - Alex Pantling: "An early goal away at Spurs led to Neal Maupay mimicking James Maddison’s iconic dart throw. It then became a bit of a trend and later in that game, I photographed Brennan Johnson doing the same thing in the exact same position." (Camera: Canon 1DX MKIII + 70-200mm)
10. Chelsea v Brentford - Darren Walsh (Chelsea): "Nicolas Jackson loves to celebrate goals, he’s a great character and always does something different. I’ve been the club photographer at Chelsea for 20 years and the players have learnt where I sit, so Nico and Enzo Fernandez gave me a quick pose before they were bundled over by team-mates." (Camera: Nikon Z9 and 70mm-200mm)
11. Chelsea v Forest - Shaun Botterill: "The style of football makes it harder to get strong images of tackling these days. Full-frame action pictures always have that certain punch to make you feel you’re really getting into the action." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 400mm lens)
12. Manchester United v Liverpool - Michael Regan: "Most of the time it makes sense to zoom in on players celebrating, to focus on the emotions. But on this occasion, I wanted to shoot wider. This was Salah’s 10th goal in nine appearances at Old Trafford, so I wanted to get as much stadium in the shot as possible to tell the story." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 70mm-200mm)
13. Man Utd v Chelsea - Carl Recine: "A long ball over the top led to Rasmus Hojlund racing towards the Stretford End. A touch around Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, with some accompanying theatrics to leave the referee in no doubt it was a foul, made for one of those nice incident pictures." (Camera: Canon R3, 70-200mm 2.8L)
14. Chelsea v Bournemouth - Chris Lee (Chelsea): "This is Thiago Silva’s last home game for Chelsea. He walked towards the fans and their huge banner, he waved and touched his heart and Chelsea badge in appreciation. Thiago wasn’t at the club long but this shows the connection he built in his short time." (Camera: Canon R3 and 24mm)
15. Liverpool v Brentford - Michael Regan: "The generation game. This father and son perfectly illustrating the passing of time as players change but the team never does. I spotted them over the road and followed them for a few yards to get a perfect scene setter outside Anfield." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 70mm-200mm)
16. Ipswich v Everton - Julian Finney: "As the play was going away from me, I decided to focus on the crowd behind. The sun was low and shining into the stands where the fans had to shade their eyes to watch the action. With this speedy wing play, the fans' undivided attention for their love of the game is clear to see." (Camera: Canon 400mm lens and a R3 Body)
17. Villa v Liverpool - Alex Pantling: "Villa Park is one of my favourite grounds to work at for many reasons, but the atmosphere has a huge say. This was a big game for Villa as they were pushing for Champions League football and I knew the atmosphere was going to be incredible." (Camera: Canon R3 + 10-20mm)
18. Man City v Man Utd - Carl Recine: "Last-minute winners are something we all love, but a last-minute winner in a Manchester derby is even more special. I wasn’t sure it had even gone in until I heard Man Utd's supporters cheering from the far end of the stadium." (Camera: Canon R1, 70-200mm 2.8L)
19. Aston Villa v Spurs - Alex Pantling: "For this game, I had sat myself in front of the away end at Villa Park, and as almost all of the stadium started to belt out "Hi, ho, Aston Villa", I turned around to see a group of young lads right behind the travelling Spurs fans, making a joyful image. (Canon 1DX MKIII + 70-200mm)
20. Arsenal v Forest - Stuart MacFarlane (Arsenal): "I’m very lucky with the access I have but it’s a challenging image to capture. This is the last moment the captain speaks to the team before kick-off and the moment I need to record while being as invisible as possible." (Camera: Nikon Z9. Lens Nikkor: 24-70 f2.8)
21. Palace v Man City - Ryan Pierse: "There is nothing unusual about Pep Guardiola sitting on the bench an hour before each match. However, in the middle of his toughest period, he was unusually animated. I captured him displaying every emotion under the sun, as the rain continued to fall." (Camera: Canon R1 with RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens)
22. Man City v Arsenal - Michael Regan: "Gabriel v Haaland was a huge battle within the match. This shot shows a different angle on the duel as the players tug and pull each other’s shirts long before the ball arrives, both looking for the upper hand physically and mentally." (Camera: Nikon Z9 + 400mm)
23. Spurs v Wolves - Jack Thomas (Wolves): "After the game was won, I thought the vibes would be high in the dressing room so I went in and the guys had the music on and were dancing around. It was one of those feel-good moments you're just thankful to be trusted to be around, and snap away where others can't!" (Camera: Canon R3 and 35mm f/1.4 lens)
24. Newcastle v West Ham - Stu Forster: "Having not seen Mohammed Kudus and his stool-sitting celebrations before, I was as confused as the ball boy when he approached. A bizarre but cheery incident. Football needs more off-piste celebrations so kudos to Kudus - despite him scoring against my team!" (Camera: Nikon D6, 24-70 1000th F4)
