Aston Villa have completed the signing of Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

The three-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid is the Villans fourth arrival of the January transfer window, after Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia and Marcus Rashford.

What did he have to say?

“Unai [Emery] is a coach that I’ve known for a while. He’s had a great career, he’s a top coach, he’s been key in me being able to come here because of his idea of how he wants to play football,” Asensio said on Villa's official website.

I love it, it suits me perfectly and he’s a really important person as to why I’m here right now.

“I’m looking forward to measuring myself against the best teams in the world every weekend and that’s something for a player like me. It’s an objective in my career and I’m pleased that I can achieve it now.”

Asensio's career so far

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a glittering career for club and country, having won honours at both levels.

For Madrid, he was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2021/22. He also won three LaLiga titles, three UEFA Super Cups, four FIFA Club World Cups and one Copa del Rey.

Asensio departed Real Madrid in the summer of 2023 for PSG, where he played 47 times across one-and-a-half seasons. He lifted four major honours with the club, including last season's Ligue 1 title.

The attacking midfielder has been capped 38 times for Spain and represented them at two FIFA World Cups. He was also part of the squad that won the 2023 UEFA Nations League.

When could Asensio feature for Villa?

Villa supporters could get their first look of Asensio this Sunday when his new club host Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

His Premier League debut could come at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday 15 February.
