Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has suggested Amad's ankle injury is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

When asked about the severity of the midfielder's issue, ahead of the match with Tottenham Hotspu, and if it will keep him out for the rest of 2024/25, Amorim told the club's official website: “I think so, yeah."

Midfielder Amad shared news of his injury via social media on Friday.

"Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury," Amad said on his Instagram page.

A statement on the Man Utd club website said, "Obviously, he [Amad] will miss the game at a ground where he has already scored this season, in the Carabao Cup, and is now expected to be out of action for a number of weeks.

"Everybody at United wishes Amad a speedy recovery and send our warmest wishes to him, following this unfortunate setback."

Amad is United's top scorer in the league with six goals, including registering a hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Southampton.

Amorim was also unable to call upon his midfield trio of Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer for the trip to north London, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Man Utd are already without six other first-team players, with Lisandro Martinez also out for an extended period due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Without Collyer, Mainoo and Ugarte, the Portugese head coach played Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro at the base of his midfield.

Casemiro has not started a league match since a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle United on 30 December.

And in the five league matches since then, Casemiro has been an unused substitute.
