Newcastle United have reached the quarter-finals after beating PSV Eindhoven 3-1 and being helped by results elsewhere.
Needing to win by three goals to go ahead of Liverpool in Group A, they missed out on top spot despite Owen Gallacher and Victor Fernandez putting them 2-0 up by the 48th minute.
Ramon Pascal Lundqvist halved the deficit, before Callum Roberts made it 3-1 in the 79th minute and PSV's Marcel Ritzmaier was sent off late on.
Newcastle are guaranteed to be one of the top two second-placed teams, who will join the six group winners in the last eight.
With six points and a goal difference of +2, they have the best total of all teams in second spot, with just Bayern Munich v Porto in Group E remaining.
The Magpies' qualification was confirmed when Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica, both on three points going into their Group F finale, drew 3-3 on Thursday.
