Ronald Koeman has made his second senior signing as Everton manager, agreeing a deal to bring Idrissa Gana Gueye to Goodison Park.
The 26-year-old moves from Aston Villa and has signed a four-year deal, following the transfer of goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to Merseyside ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
"I am very happy to be here at Everton and I am very happy and excited to put on the Blue shirt to start the new season here," Gueye told evertonfc.com. "Everton is a big team with big players and great fans."
Everton manager Koeman added: "Idrissa will provide quality in our squad in the midfield and we want to increase the quality in the team.
"He was one of the players last season with the best record in interceptions and pressing in the midfield. We need this kind of quality and I’m happy to have him joining our club.”
Despite relegation from the 2015/16 Premier League Gueye was a consistent performer at Villa Park.
New Chelsea signing N’Golo Kante (175) was the only player in the top flight to record more tackles than the central midfielder (144). Gueye made 141 interceptions, a figure only beaten by Kante.
Everton's next pre-season fixture is against Manchester United for the testimonial of the Red Devils' captain Wayne Rooney, who started his career with the Toffees, on Wednesday 3 August.
Their first Premier League match of 2016/17 comes 10 days later as Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur visit Goodison Park.
