After a disappointing end to 2015/16 for West Bromwich Albion, with just seven goals in their final nine fixtures, Tony Pulis has drafted in winger Matt Phillips from Queens Park Rangers.
The Baggies' need for reinforcement up front had been clear.
They scored 34 times last season, a tally above only the relegated Aston Villa, and produced the fewest shots on target in the 2015/16 Premier League.
Phillips arrives at The Hawthorns on the back of eight goals and five assists for a QPR side who managed a mid-table finish in the Championship.
The 25-year-old winger produced an effort on goal every 40.7 minutes and created a scoring opportunity every 58.3 minutes in 2015/16.
On both counts, only Callum McManaman (£4.5m) performed better in the Baggies midfield last season.
Phillips's arrival is expected to place further doubt over game time for McManaman, who started only 12 times last term.
He will bring a much-needed turn of pace to the West Brom attack and Phillips's direct running and eye for goal sits well with Pulis’s preference for hitting opponents on the counter.
The new boy has been quick to establish himself as a regular on the right during the close-season and found the net in the recent friendly against Torquay United.
Priced at £5.5m, Phillips could force his way into our Fantasy Premier League squads if he can reprise his form towards the end of the 2014/15 campaign.
Despite playing for a team doomed for the drop, the Scotland international emerged as a late-season FPL prospect after producing three goals and eight assists in the final 14 Gameweeks.
With West Brom against Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth and the promoted Middlesbrough in their first four rounds of fixtures, Phillips has the chance to make an immediate impact upon his return to the top flight.
