1993: Sheffield Wednesday 5-2 Southampton

Sheffield Wednesday produced a five-star performance against Southampton to move above Chelsea to sixth in the table. 

Mark Bright, Phil King and a hat-trick for Chris Bart-Williams secured a big win for the home side at Hillsborough. 

Jason Dodd and Iain Dowie got the goals for a Saints side who stayed 14th.

2003: Newcastle United 2-6 Manchester United

Manchester United put the pressure on Arsenal by going top of the table with a 6-2 victory at Newcastle United. 

Newcastle took the lead through Jermaine Jenas but Paul Scholes’ hat-trick and goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy secured a United win.

Shola Ameobi got a late consolation goal, as Newcastle remained in third. 

United had played a match more but went three points clear of second-placed Arsenal, whom they would face four days later having cut the Gunners' superior goal difference to just one.
