1996: Solskjaer joins Man Utd
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Manchester United from Molde, after scoring 31 goals in 38 matches for the Norwegian side.
The striker enjoyed a glittering career at Old Trafford, scoring 18 goals in his debut season to help Alex Ferguson’s side win the Premier League title.
He went on to win five more PL titles in 12 seasons at the club for whom he earned a reputation for being a “super sub”.
Also known as the “baby-faced assassin” for his youthful looks and ruthless eye for goal, Solskjaer came off the bench to score four goals in 12 minutes in United’s 8-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in February 1999.
That same season he scored the last-gasp winner in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich to clinch the treble for United.
The Norwegian amassed 235 PL appearances and 91 goals in the competition.
2004: Newcastle sign Butt
After winning six Premier League titles in 12 years at Old Trafford, Nicky Butt left Manchester United to join Sir Bobby Robson’s Newcastle United.
Butt suffered a series of injuries during his six seasons at St James’ Park, but went on to make 117 PL appearances for the club, was made club captain and scored five goals in the top flight for the Magpies.
