Premier League players will be raring to go this weekend when the season starts, says Alan Shearer, probably because it signals the end of their pre-season training.
"All that work is set up for the first day of the season," the Premier League's record goalscorer says. "They [the players] all love the buzz of walking out and it’s back again and they can’t wait to get started. They will be full of confidence and be raring to go.”
Shearer certainly savoured the opening day, not only because he has a great record. No player can surpass his eight goals in the opening Matchweeks of the campaign.
He was also glad to finish all the training.
"I hated pre-season," said Shearer. "I hated it. A lot of it was based around running. Hard, long runs – I hated that. I was hopeless at that."
