David McGoldrick's first-half strike was the difference as Sheffield United ended a disappointing season on a high by beating Burnley 1-0 at Bramall Lane.
The forward got the winner on 24 minutes, with the 1,000th Premier League goal this season, curling the ball into the bottom corner.
Chris Basham came close to adding a second for Sheff Utd, but his fierce strike came back off a post.
Burnley pressed for an equaliser after the break and Chris Wood forced a fine save from Aaron Ramsdale.
Sheff Utd finish bottom on 23 points, while Burnley end in 17th on 39 points.
