Goals from Che Adams and Oriol Romeu earned Southampton a 2-0 win over Norwich City to leapfrog Brighton & Hove Albion into ninth position.
Adams opened the scoring nine minutes before half-time with his third goal in four matches when he bundled the ball in at the second attempt after Tino Livramento's cross had deflected into his path.
Mohamed Elyounoussi, Kyle Walker-Peters and Stuart Armstrong all had chances to double the lead but were denied by former Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Norwich then had a big chance to equalise when Grant Hanley missed the target with a header following a great cross by substitute Pierre Lees-Melou.
It came back to bite them as Romeu confirmed the win two minutes from time with a stunning strike from the edge of the area for only his second goal in three seasons.
A 10th successive home match unbeaten takes Saints on to 35 points, five behind seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Norwich remain bottom with 17 points, five from safety. They have also played more matches and have an inferior goal difference than all five teams directly above them.
