Liverpool missed a chance to seal a knockout place in the Premier League International Cup as they lost 2-1 to Athletic Club Bilbao, but their fate remains in their own hands in Group E.
The Spanish team went ahead in the 20th minute when the ball ricocheted to Inigo Baque, who scored before netting again 15 minutes later from close range.
Liverpool increased the pressure after the break and halved the deficit on 82 minutes through Jack Bearne's deflected effort, but Bilbao held on.
The Reds remain third, a point behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and second-placed Athletic, but they have a match in hand over both sides.
They would take top spot if they are successful in their winner-takes-all fixture against fourth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, who lie one point behind and can also finish top.
The six group winners will progress to the knockout stages, along with the two best runners-up.
