Exclusively for readers of the Fantasy Premier League Briefing, The Scout has singled out five players worthy of consideration for the first Gameweek of the new year.
The next deadline is 16:00 GMT on Friday 1 January. Don't get caught out.
Jamie Vardy (£10.2m)
The Leicester City striker's away form looks set to pose big problems for Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Vardy has produced four of his five double-figure hauls this season on the road, averaging 9.3 points per match. The Magpies, meanwhile, have just one clean sheet at home in 2020/21.
Danny Ings (£8.3m)
Ings’ return to action could prove decisive for Southampton’s encounter with Liverpool. When selected, he has been involved in 56 per cent of Saints’ home goals this term. Ings has produced both his double-figure hauls at St Mary’s Stadium and could prove a great differential, with a mere 5.5 per cent ownership.
Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m)
A home meeting with Sheffield United raises van Aanholt’s prospects of a big haul in Gameweek 17. Since making his first start of the season in Gameweek 8, the Crystal Palace left-back has totalled 11 shots, placing him fourth among defenders in FPL. The Blades, meanwhile, have scored only one goal in their last four away matches.
Leandro Trossard (£5.8m)
Brighton & Hove Albion’s midfielder has proven a rich source of creativity in recent matches. His 11 key passes place joint-fourth along with Kevin De Bruyne (£11.7m) in the last four Gameweeks. The Belgian can exploit a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who have conceded in nine successive Gameweeks.
Bruno Fernandes (£11.2m)
The consistency of Fernandes continues to reward the faith of Fantasy managers. Manchester United’s Portuguese was the only player among the top 10 captains in Gameweek 16 to produce attacking returns. His creativity could make the difference against Aston Villa at Old Trafford; at home, Fernandes’ 25 key passes is a league-leading total this season.
