Other players will represent their countries in a host of qualifying tournaments worldwide. The South American World Cup qualification campaign is approaching the halfway point of its league process, while the Asian equivalent has now reached the decisive third group-stage round, offering World Cup places to the top two in each six-team group.

The Premier League’s African contingent will be in action in more Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

A number of UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifiers will also take place.

Wednesday

After the final few World Cup qualifiers and international friendlies have concluded, attention returns to domestic action with two Premier League Cup matches for Under-21 sides. Exeter City host Norwich City and Birmingham City travel to Stockport County at 19:00 BST.

Sunderland's Under-21s are at home to Athletic Bilbao in the Premier League International Cup at 19:00 BST.

The Fantasy Premier League deadline for Gameweek 4 is at 11:00 BST.

After almost two weeks off, the Premier League returns with Manchester United’s trip to struggling Southampton at 12:30 BST. The home side are one of two teams not to pick up a point so far this season, while United have lost their last two matches as they look to integrate a number of new signings.

League leaders Man City will look to maintain their perfect record when they welcome Brentford in one of five 15:00 BST kick-offs.

Liverpool have also won their first three matches and host Nottingham Forest, while high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion hope to maintain their excellent start to the campaign against Ipswich Town.
