Ahmed Hegazi's debut goal gave West Bromwich Albion a winning start to the 2017/18 season against AFC Bournemouth.
The first chance at The Hawthorns fell to new West Brom signing Jay Rodriguez, whose curling effort flew just wide of Asmir Begovic's post.
But the home side went ahead on 31 minutes when Hegazi headed in Chris Brunt's wide free-kick.
AFC Bournemouth had half-chances through Joshua King and Ryan Fraser, while Jermain Defoe came off the bench as they chased an equaliser.
But Tony Pulis's defence stood firm to ensure all three points for the hosts.
