Liverpool 2-1 West Brom
First-half goals by Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho earned Liverpool victory over West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp's men might have won by a heavier margin had Ben Foster not excelled, but ended the match nervously after Gareth McAuley’s late goal.
Liverpool took the lead 20 minutes in with a sweeping move started by a dummy from Coutinho. Emre Can ran at West Brom's defence and fed Roberto Firmino, whose cross was converted by Mane.
Coutinho doubled the lead 10 minutes before the interval when he received Mane’s pass, dummied two West Brom defenders before beating Foster at his near post.
Adam Lallana fired over and Firmino was denied by McAuley before Foster turned a Dejan Lovren header over.
West Brom struck on 81 minutes when McAuley pounced on a loose ball from a corner and scored. That goal denied Liverpool going above Arsenal and top on goals scored.
