Luton Town’s Double Gameweek 7 can make Carlton Morris (£5.6m) the best alternative to Erling Haaland (£14.1m) for the captaincy in Fantasy Premier League.

The Hatters are one of only two sides to play twice in this round of fixtures, visiting Everton this weekend before entertaining Burnley on Tuesday evening.

Haaland, meanwhile, visits Wolverhampton Wanderers in Manchester City’s only match of the Gameweek.

Morris has been quick to show his importance to Luton since their promotion.

Indeed, he has been involved in all three of their goals, scoring two and assisting one.

That has helped him average 5.2 points per match (ppm), which places him joint-fourth along with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins (£7.9m) and Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi (£6.6m) among forwards.

Haaland has averaged 8.5ppm thanks to eight goals and an assist.

Assists 1 1
Bonus 6 5

The underlying numbers could barely be more favourable for the Norwegian.

His 31 shots in the box are more than three times the 10 of Morris, while Haaland has had 15 big chances, compared with only three for the Luton striker.

Notably, two of those big chances for Morris were converted penalties, with the Hatters’ striker yet to score from open play this season.

On pure goal threat alone, then, it’s simply no contest.

However, Morris’s potential for bonus points, which is determined by the Bonus Points System (BPS), is the one plus in his favour.

He scored and collected two bonus in Luton’s 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in Gameweek 1, earning eight points.

His goal against Wolves in a 1-1 draw last weekend helped him to the maximum three bonus and a total of nine points.

Essentially, then, Morris's lack of competition from team-mates in the BPS means he is near-certain to pick up bonus whenever he scores.

Haaland, by contrast, has only earned bonus when he has scored at least two goals in a match this season.

He scored once against Sheffield United, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest in the last four Gameweeks but received no bonus points as he was overshadowed by a number of team-mates in the BPS.

As the underlying statistics show, Haaland’s multitude of scoring chances means going against him with the captaincy is a very risky tactic.

But for those prepared to take that risk, Morris’s two matches, allied with his ability to collect bonus whenever he scores, suggests he could be the best alternative.
