Goalkeeper Fraser Forster made a superb penalty save as Southampton dented Liverpool's Premier League top-four hopes with a 0-0 draw at Anfield.
After Jack Stephens was adjudged to have handled a deep cross on 66 minutes, Forster dived to his right to deny James Milner, the first time he missed a spot-kick in the PL since November 2009.
Following a first half of few clear-cut chances, subsitute Marko Grujic was spectacularly denied by Forster late in the second period, while Dusan Tadic's cross narrowly evaded Shane Long as Saints threatened on the counter-attack.
