Ten KEY takeaways from 2024/25 pre-season

The 2024/25 Premier League season is nearly here, and all 20 clubs have been stepping up their preparations for the big kick off on Friday 16 August.

A record 1,246 Premier League goals were scored in 2023/24 and many players who could contribute to that number this season have been warming up for the new campaign by netting some spectacular goals. Take a look at some of the best here:

Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Bayern Munich

"A Pedro Porro special!" The Spurs defender collects Yves Bissouma’s pass and hits an unstoppable right-foot thunderbolt past goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli cuts inside to get away from Man Utd midfielder James Scanlon before whipping a low shot inside the near post.

Preston North End 0-3 Everton

Summer signing Jesper Lindstrom curls a magnificent free-kick into the top left corner from 25 yards out to score his first goal for Everton.

West Ham United 2-2 Celta Vigo

Lucas Paqueta's beautifully crafted pass picks out Jarrod Bowen, who takes a touch with his left foot and fires home with his right.

Olympiacos 3-4 Nottingham Forest

Anthony Elanga picks up the ball just inside Olympiacos' half, accelerates past one player and then another two, before he places the ball into the bottom corner.

AFC Bournemouth 3-2 Girona

Dango Ouattara's inviting cross from the right is powerfully headed home by Luis Sinisterra for his second goal in successive matches.

Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Leicester City

Kasey McAteer’s audacious right-footed lob restores Leicester's lead, less than 60 seconds after Shrewsbury had equalised.

Aston Villa 3-2 Atletico Bilbao

Pau Torres, Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans combine to create an opening for Jacob Ramsey, who nutmegs goalkeeper Alex Padilla as he sweeps the ball home.

Manchester City 2-2 Barcelona

Jack Grealish finds the top corner after being played in by Mateo Kovacic as Man City equalise for a second time.

Brentford 4-4 Wolfsburg

A long ball from goalkeeper Mark Flekken is played on by Mikkel Damsgaard to Ivan Toney, whose sumptuous touch picks out Kevin Schade and the German dispatches a low shot past the Wolfsburg 'keeper for Brentford's fourth goal.
