A James Ward-Prowse penalty and a superb Che Adams strike guided Southampton to a 2-0 win at Sheffield United, their first victory in 10 Premier League matches.
Southampton suffered an early blow at Bramall Lane when Danny Ings was forced off, but the dangerous Nathan Tella created their opener on 32 minutes as he was fouled by Ethan Ampadu on a counter-attack. Ward-Prowse converted the resulting penalty.
David McGoldrick missed a great chance to draw Sheff Utd level just before the break, shooting straight at Fraser Forster when through on goal.
Substitute Adams doubled the lead with a fierce half-volley from outside the area four minutes after the break for his fourth goal against his former club.
Sheff Utd struggled to muster a response, with Southampton going closest to another goal as Takumi Minamino fired wide.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's team stay 14th on 33 points, 10 clear of the relegation zone. Sheff Utd are bottom with 14 points.
